It was a perfect day on Sunday for our annual tennis championships finals with blue skies and soaring temperatures. The tennis did not disappoint either and there were some matches of high quality and excitement.
After a 5 year break from the Mens Singles event, Elliott Wood showed that he still has what it takes to regain his mens singles title that he won back in 2005 and 2006. 2010 Champion Adam Drysdale put up a strong challenge with the first set going to a tie break but Elliott prevailed to win the match 7-6, 6-3.
In a very exciting mens doubles match it was 2009 champions Ashtey Pauls and Charlie Dryden who came back from a set down to win after a nail biting tie break second set. They defeated Elliott Wood and Carl Richardson 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4.
Hannah Crawford continued her domination of the ladies singles event winning the title for the sixth year in a row. In a repeat of last years final, Hannah defeated Rachel Whiteside 6-4, 6-2. Hannah also added the doubles title to her collection. Partnering Charlotte Ames they beat Claire Coomer and Helen Eckersley 6-2, 6-1. In the Mixed Doubles, Adam Drysdale took some consolation in winning with partner Liz Davies. They overcame Monica Finlayson and Ben Jepson 6-1, 6-4 in one of the last matches of the day.
