CROQUET CLUB NEWS JUNE 2012


1 Jo Burnaby has looked through the croquet archives and has found out that she was Golf Croquet captain for 21 years and not the 19 years as previously thought!

2 Roger Barnacle took a team of 4 to contest the second round of the Inter-Club GC Tournament at Nailsea, to the west of Bristol, on Friday June 15th. The team consisting of David Nicholson, James Tuttiet, Keith M Ross and Roger won 5 - 2.

3 However we did not do so well in the League AC against Littleton on Thursday June 14th losing 0 - 4 and also losing to Phyllis Court in the GC League 4 - 8. There were however draws in the handicap GC League versus Hamptworth and Bransgore.

4 The AC Captain Nigel Hind held his inaugural 1-2-3 tournament at Winchester on Friday June 15th. The contest consisted of 1 14point game of AC, 2 of 13 point games of GC and 3 games of One-Ball. There were 8 players, the captain won and gallantly declined to hand himself the prize, instead awarding it to the runner-up, Rita Nunn.

5 The Armada Trophy (Doubles AC) was held on Saturday June 23rd at Winchester.There were 5 pairs, with 2 pairs from Bluebery, each pair playing the others in 18 point games. Gary Yates and his partner Sue Bradley from Hamptworth were first and Keith M Ross and Glynis Hassall in her first tournament (Winchester and Dogmersfield) were runners-up.

6 The Six Lawns AC Tournament over 18 point games was held at Hamptworth, Winchester and Littleton on Friday and Saturday Jun 29th and 30th and Sunday July 1st. There were 22 contestants with 4 coming from the Carrickmines club in Dublin. Other players came from East Dorset and Colchester. Blocks were held on Friday and Saturday with the winners going through to the Semifinal and Final stages at Hamptworth on the Sunday. Roger Barnacle was the clear winner defeating Nigel Parsons of the Parkstone Club, Poole. In the 10 years the contest has been running there have been 3 Winchester winners, the other two being Rita Nunn and Keith M Ross. Now we need a fourth Winchester winner for next year!
