Six lawns Tournament
This was held at Winchester, Littleton and Hamptworth on June 28th to 30th. We only had one competitor this year Tony Tizard. Unfortunately this has not been reported yet to the CA so we have no news as to the winner. Tony said that however it was not him.
This was divided into two divisions, the First division to be played at Southwick and the Second Division at Surbiton.
Originally Winchester was to be in the First Division, but Roger Barnacle and Nigel Hind had to pull out due to prior engagements and because of handicap levels, Winchester was put into the Second Division.
Our team was Keith M Ross (H'cap 2 and captain, Jo Burnaby h'cap 3, Jan Johnston h'cap 6 and Glynis Hassall h'cap 8).
There were 6 teams in Division 2 and each had to be played twice (Level play). Each match consisted of 3 games , one doubles and 2 singles. The weather was hot, but at the end of Day 1, Winchester found they had played 6 matches and won them all. Other teams were from Reigate, Purley, Surbiton, Caterham and Medway )On the second day Winchester again started well and won the first 2 matches before succumbing in the third match v Purley.
However we found ourselves in the Final v Reigate who now put out their strongest team. We had to beat them to win the trophy and managed to do that by 4 games to 2, and won a handsome Salver and Plaque in the process.
