Great result for Men’s B...

.....Our promotion chasing Men’s B team took a big step towards achieving their goal by beating a strong Warsash team 9-0 yesterday.

With both teams knowing a win was essential, they took to the courts on a hot and sunny Sunday afternoon.

Part of the triumphant team, Ed Blake, Jon Clift, Carl Richardson, Mike Johnson (absent Tal Russ and James Crawford)

Winchester welcomed James Crawford into the team who paired up with Mike Johnson as 3rd pair. James played very well with Mike, despatching the visitors no 1 pair 6/1 6/2. Over on court 2, Jonathan Clift and Ed Blake played equally well comfortably beating the visitors 2nd pair 6/3 6/1, however over on court 3, our 1st pair (Tal Russ and Carl Richardson) had just won the tie break first set when the other 2 matches had finished. Tal and Carl duly won their second set 6/4, allowing the rest of the team a well-earned rest from the heat. It must be noted that some of Carls wayward first serves caused some anxious moments on court 2……

3-0 up after the first round was a very positive position to be in, with Warsash still fancying their chances. So into round 2, with Tal/Carl making slightly easier work of the visitors no 1 pair winning 6/2 6/4, Jon and Ed not wasting much time with their 3rd pair winning 6/4 6/1, but James/Mike went the long way against Warsash 2nd pair, winning the first set comfortable 6/3, but then losing the second 6/4, but redeemed themselves with a great champions breaker, winning that 10-4. So match won at 6-0 up

So into the last round with Jon/Ed destroying the no 1 pair 6/2 6/0, Carl/Tal comfortable against the no 2 pair 6/3 6/1, and James/Mike doing the same as their previous match winning the first set comfortably 6/2, losing the second set on a breaker, but then kept their 100% match breaker intact by winning that 11/9, saving a match point in the process.

An excellent result to beat fellow promotion chasers Warsash 9-0, pair of the day without doubt Jon and Ed, well played all
