Match report for the Mens B team v Salisbury
Great result for the B team, we beat Salisbury 6-3 which gives us a chance of remaining in the top division. The team were Daniel Cole, Duncan Trew, Joe Beal, Harry Stow, Mark Swinscoe and myself. Dan and Duncan started off proceedings by succinctly beating the Salisbury 3rd pair (Tom Compton.../ Tom Gaddene) 6-3, 6-1, Joe and Harry had a tougher proposition playing their 2nd pair Roger Witt / Andy Russell taking the first set 6-3 but losing the second 1-6, myself and Mark had a slow start against the 1st pair (brothers Francis and Rory Smith) losing the first 3-6 but played a lot better in the second winning 6-2. We all soon realised that Roger and his partner were the strongest Salisbury pairing, with his partner Andy by far their best player.
So with a good start in the first round, we hoped to build on it in the second. Dan and Duncan beat the 1st pair convincingly 6-2, 6-2, Joe and Harry beat the third pair 6-4, 6-0., and unfortunately Mark and myself were outplayed by Roger/Andy losing 3-6, 2-6.
We were now 4-2 up, and just needed one more point to win it. Myself and Mark won the first set 6-0 against the 3rd pair, and glancing over to court one could see the Joe and Harry had taken the first set 6-3, which meant we had won the match. Unfortunately for myself and Mark we just made a few more errors and they played a lot better and lost the second 3-6. Joe and Harry went on to win 6-3, 6-1 against the first pair. We now watched Dan and Duncan from the clubhouse, who had lost their first set 3-6 against Roger / Andy, but saw them win the second 7-5.
All in all a very satisfying result.
Onwards and upwards, we have Warsash at home on 15th February (10.30am), and our final match away to Totton and Eling on the 1st March.
