The Armada Trophy Saturday June 6th 2015
Once again Ivor Nunn has defied all expectations and his age of 90 years in winning the Armada Trophy with his partner Artur da Costa at Hamptworth on Saturday June 6th 2015. This is an annual event organised by the Southern Croquet Federation. It is a ‘doubles’ tournament and open to clubs in the Southern Federation.
Eight clubs (16 players) gathered to play four one-and-a half-hour 14 point matches against four other clubs during the day. Ivor and Artur beat off all opposition from Hamptworth One, Ryde, Winchester One and Harlow.
Winchester Two team (Keith Mackenzie Ross and Glynis Hassall won 3 matches out of four against Harlow, Phyllis Court (Henley) and Hamptworth Two to finish second.
It is to Ivor’s great credit to win for a second time in his 90th year, having won an Open Association Tournament also in 2014; it must be that next year Winchester One and Two will have to swop places!
