WILTS OPEN GC TOURNAMENT SUNDAY MAY 25TH 2014
On a blustery day the scheduled Wilts Open GC Tournament was curtailed to one day owing to flooding of the lawns on the previous day. There were 16 contestants, including members from Sussex County, Dulwich, Cheltenham, East Dorset and one contestant from Wales.
Richard Jenkins managed the tournament; there were 2 entries from Winchester, Roger Barnacle (Winchester and Dogmersfield) and Keith Mackenzie Ross coming in as first reserve.
The players were divided into 4 groups of 4 each, with all playing all. Roger won his group and Keith came second in his. The first 3 rounds were played before lunch and the semifinals and finals after lunch with the remaining players divided into a further 3 groups with all play all. Roger won his semifinal against Richard Brookes of Sussex County and so was in the final versus Simon Carter of Dulwich. This was the best of three 13 point games. The first two games were shared and in a tense final game Roger managed to get a 3 point lead, kept his nerve and came out winner 7-3, 5-7, and 7-3. Congratulations to him. This is his second win of this tournament and he is now the proud possessor of some more silverware!
Keith came 7th out of 16 contestants.
