This week’s National Squash Championships were set to be one of the most fiercely contested to date, featuring six former and current champions in the line-up - Nick Matthew, James Willstrop, Laura Massaro, Sarah-Jane Perry, Alison Waters, Jenny Duncalf, whilst also featuring Winchester players Alex Phillips and Adam Corcoran.
At such a prestigious event, both players played exceptionally well to make it past the first round. In round 2 Adam came up against top seed Mark Fuller and made him work for the win. Unfortunately Adam lost the match 3-2, 11/6, 8/11, 11/7, 7/11, 11/3
Alex won his first round match in just 16 minutes, but unfortunately also lost in the 2nd round to number 2 seed Ashley Davies. Like Adam, Alex ensured that his opponent worked for the victory, with one report describing Alex as "making the guy (Ashley Davies) run around the court like a headless chicken!". Alex's 2nd round match finished 6/11, 11/4, 11/8, 8/11, 11/8
