ONE BALL TOURNAMENT
Sunday 19th March saw the last of our series of winter one ball tournaments with ten contestants turning out to vie for the prize of a bottle of wine.
After 6 rounds Keith Mackenzie-Ross was at the top of the board with 5 wins, but three other contenders had 4 wins so it all rested on the last game of the day – if Keith won, then he would be unbeaten, but if any of the others won their matches and Keith lost, it would rest on who beat who.
Jan Johnston, one of the contenders, won her last game and she had been the only player to beat Keith. Keith was playing Glynis Hassell, and Jan had promised to share the wine with her if she beat Keith, so we all settled down to watch the finish. Glynis was two hoops ahead of Keith at the final hoop, but then made a tactical error which Keith was very swift to take advantage of, and caught up. They were both aiming for the peg with Glynis having the first shot – and missed. Keith didn't, so it was all over.
Well done Keith, and thanks everyone for a most enjoyable day.
