Winchester recently played host to the latest round of matches in the Junior Grand Prix series. Organiser of the events & Winchester coach, Brian Ward reported...
Sunday 19th November saw 35 juniors from several clubs around Hampshire come along to Winchester Racquets and Fitness Club to join in with event number 2 of this season's Hampshire Junior Grand Prix series (inc. Connors and Falcon Cup events). This event saw several new entrants including players from as far as Gary Hales in the north of the county. Hopefully these players will be able to report back that it was a good event and get some more joining in. We also had players from Bounty, Fleming Park and Botley Park, as well as our own players Reubens Trubshaw, Amy Ward, Sam Ward, Isabel Collins, Bethan Cooling, Toby Cooling, Oliver Williams and Rio Pettigrew. We are working hard to get the message out to all clubs in Hampshire with active junior sections to give it a go as it is an ideal platform to start competitive squash.
Winchester again provided us with all six courts and generally everyone comments on it being a great venue for these events, so thanks to Ian and his team.
Thanks also go to Matt Pye who looks after the Falcon Cup (beginners event), Tim Dickins (the Connors Cup for the intermediate section) and the players themselves who look after the Grand Prix event for the advanced players. Likewise thanks to all the parents that help with marking on the day.
A great day of squash was had by all, with many excellent results and a lot of determination to play well.
The next event in the series will be held on 17th December at Winchester Racquets and Fitness Club starting at 12:30pm. If you would like to take part please contact Brian- email@example.com
